Canadian-born, Sarah Edmonds was another female soldier who served as a man in the American Civil War. She used the name Franklin Thompson and felt that it was her duty to serve her new country and was truly patriotic. She wrote extensively about her experience as a spy during the war which required her to create many disguises. In 1992, she was inducted into the Michigan Women’s Hall of Fame.
