Kathrine Switzer
A story of stamina and self-awareness, Switzer signed herself up for the Boston Marathon in 1967 using her initials and hiding that she was a woman but entered the race revealing that she was. The image alone shows the reaction of her involvement as women were not allowed to compete in the race. Switzer’s participation consequently lifted the ban on women running in the marathon.
