Apple Bandai Pippin

Ten years before the mobile gaming boom that came with the advent of the iPod and App Store, Apple tried to introduce its own game console, the Bandai Pippin, in 1996. The Pippin offered Internet capabilities that could have led to early online gaming, but its catalog of games was extremely limited, especially compared to major competitors like the Sony PlayStation and Nintendo 64. Apple discontinued the console after just one year and 42,000 units sold.
