Motorola ROKR

Apple’s 2007 announcement of the iPhone was a total game changer, so much so that most of us have probably completely forgotten about Apple’s prior foray into the cell phone industry. In a 2005 collaboration with Motorola, Apple made the ROKR the first phone capable of playing music from the iTunes Store. It was an utter failure, with a 100-song limit (only one-tenth of the original iPod’s storage) and no way of purchasing music directly from the phone. Jobs ended the collaboration after a year and soon proved that Apple could do a much better phone on its own.
