Family Bonds
Although joining the army was an opportunity that yielded him several benefits, he did have to handle one issue: his family. Working in the army did imply that he would have to spend long periods of time away from his family. Because Patrick loved his wife and kids so much, the thought of being away from them for extended periods hurt. What’s more, that means that he would have to entrust the care of his kids to his wife exclusively. While he did not doubt her mothering capabilities, it meant that she would have to fend for herself while he was gone. With so much riding on the line, what would he decide?
