Cast: Chiwetel Ejiofor plays Karl Mordo, who is a white character in the comics. Benedict Wong, who emigrated to the UK from Hong Kong, plays Wong, a character who has problematic roots in the comics. Benjamin Bratt has a brief role as Jonathan Pangborn, a former student of the Ancient One. British-Chinese actor Linda Louise Duan appears briefly as Marvel character Tina Minoru. Indonesian-British actor Topo Wresniwiro and black actor Mark Anthony Brighton play students of the Ancient One. Tilda Swinton plays the Ancient One, written in the comics as an Asian character. The character has always been problematic, and this casting decision prompted outrage from many cultural critics, and emphatic defense from Marvel.
