His Dark Materials
We may have to wait awhile for the “Game of Thrones” spin-offs, but HBO has another fantasy series coming to our screens in the very near future. “His Dark Materials,” based on the young-adult fantasy trilogy by Philip Pullman, and written by “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” playwright Jack Thorne, will premiere on November 4. The series should have plenty to offer “Game of Thrones” fans, from a plucky girl heroine a la Arya Stark, animal companions in the vein of direwolves and dragons, and an icy Northern setting. And did I mention that Lin Manuel Miranda plays a Texan hot air balloonist?
