The silent film director was coldly shot in the back with a small caliber pistol on Feb. 1, 1922 at his LA duplex. Some say it was actresses Mabel Normand and Mary Miles Minter, while others pointed the finger to Minter’s mom, Charlotte Shelby. But the killer was never found and it remains one of Hollywood’s most shocking unsolved crimes.
