Tomatoes are fruits, but somehow they are legally considered as vegetables. I know that it sounds really odd, but there is a reason behind it. Well, in Nix vs. Hedden, tomatoes started to be legally considered as vegetables in order to be taxable, due to the Tariff Act of 1883.
