Animal Defense Mechanisms That Prove Nature Is Beautiful And Terrifying

African Crested Porcupine

These prickly rodents crack me up. The porcupines spines are super strong and easily slip out of the porcupines body once they’ve speared something. What makes these dudes giggle inducing is that in order to utilize their spiky weapon to protect themselves they have to run backwards, charging into an attacking predator blind. Sometimes in an alternative move they’ll run forward while being chased and then abruptly stop, letting the predator impale themselves. Tricked!
