Paying tribute to a statue of a Dear Leader is compulsory for residents of North Korea. In 2013, a statue of Kim Jong-il, originally clad in a jacket like his father Kim Il-sung, was modified to depict him wearing a “threadbare and discoloured” anorak. “The parka will be remembered forever by the Korean people,” reported the Korean Central News Agency, run by the North Korean state.
