Children are forced to do a number of deplorable things in North Korea, from publicly praising an oppressive regime to being forced to help rebuild public infrastructure. Lee Wi-ryeok, a defector, told Daily NK that, growing up in an orphanage, he was forced to eat lice and food gathered from cow feces. Any disobedience resulted in beatings.
