The gold rush positively impacted this little town that now had 11 pubs and around 1855 it had a population of nearly 16,000!
Deason and Oates were only relying on finding gold, and with most of the money and food running out, they had to get a big score. Weeks passed and the two couldn’t even afford buying flour to make bread!
