The mid-1946 tests of atomic bombs in the Bikini Atoll by the US government were the first nuclear detonations since the August 9th 1945 Nagasaki bombing. Although the residents of Bikini Atoll agreed to relocate, as of 2015, the area remains uninhabitable on account of radioactive contamination.
