In 1950, the US Navy conducted a secret experiment that involved spraying supposedly harmless bacteria off the shore of San Francisco. The aim was to study the spread of biological weapons attacks. The result was an increase in both rare urinary tract infections and pneumonia, although any link to the government’s experiments has been denied.
