Lost Children of Francoism
When Francisco Franco turned Spain into a totalitarian dictatorship in 1936, the children of families opposed to his politics became a threat. Estimates of up to 300,000 children were kidnapped. While many were illegally adopted by pro-Francoist families, others were sold into the slave trade.
