Between 1953 and 1967, the CIA used a number of American citizens — typically poor, black, elderly, sick, or prisoners — as guinea pigs in radiation experiments. Mentally disabled teens in Massachusetts were given radioactive milk; pregnant women took radiation pills to study the effect on fetusus; and baby boys in Memphis were injected with radioactive iodine.
