Turns Out Those Easter Island Heads Have Entire Bodies Hidden Underground

Actually, the color red was kind of a big deal.

It’s considered a sacred color in Polynesia. Archaeologists discovered red pigment at several burial sites surrounding the statues, which means that one: some of those statues were painted (obviously). And two: a family’s statue more than likely doubled as a marker for its dead.
