Turns Out Those Easter Island Heads Have Entire Bodies Hidden Underground

Over the years, sediment and rocks buried the torsos of the statues.

Particularly those on the slopes of Ranu Raraku. As the island naturally weathered and eroded, the moai bodies became buried. It’s why they’re sometimes referred to as the “Easter Island heads” — no one even knew they had bodies to begin with.
