The Best ‘Game of Thrones’ Characters and Storylines That Were Cut for TV

Wyman Manderly’s Revenge

HBO

There are few characters that fans lament more than Wyman Manderly. While the character does appear briefly in the show, his role is dramatically reduced from the novels. Nicknamed Lord Too-Fat-to-Sit-a-Horse, Manderly is a jovial character – albeit one that knows how to hold a grudge. On the written page, after his son Wendel is murdered at the Red Wedding, Manderly claims to swear fealty to the Freys, but instead plots his revenge. It is Manderly, rather than Arya Stark, who presents Walder Frey with meat pies that may or may not contain his family members. The book is somewhat more ambiguous than the show on this point, leaving things to subtext instead of pointing at the pies and stating that they are made of people.
