Brewing Frey Trouble
Speaking of the Red Wedding, part of the reason why this scene is so harrowing in the show is that it seems to come out of nowhere. The Freys appear to turn on basically everyone for no apparent reason without much buildup. This is very different in the books, where a lot of time is spent establishing the entire Frey household as duplicitous bullies who are clearly plotting something horrible. Whether the sudden twist of the Red Wedding helps or hinders the story in “Game of Thrones” is difficult to say.
