The Best ‘Game of Thrones’ Characters and Storylines That Were Cut for TV

Vargo Hoat

HBO

In the television series, the villainous Locke cuts of Jaime Lannister’s hand and forces Brienne of Tarth to fight a bear in a pit. This character is a new invention for “Game of Thrones,” at George RR Martin’s personal request. In the novels, the character is instead named Vargo Hoat, and is an unpleasant man with a very prominent lisp. When Martin learned that “Game of Thrones” showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss wanted to ditch the lisp, he requested that they invent a wholly different character rather than get Vargo Hoat so wrong in the show.
