In the late 1800s, the Carnegie family – more of that sweet, sweet steel money – owned almost all of Cumberland Island off the coast of Georgia. Their estate included this 59-room Scottish-style mansion which they used as a winter getaway, obvi. However, you’ll be shocked to learn that in 1929 it was left to rot, and eventually catch on fire, and crumble into ruin.
