While still apparently quite a hospitable place for sheep and, one assumes, highland cattle, the island of Hirta has been abandoned since the 1930s. Apparently residents at the time faced a constant threat of starvation in addition to very harsh weather so they took off, but their and their ancestors’ buildings still remain. Got a real Game of Thrones look to it – that’s some Highgarden shit right there.
