Oradour-sur-Glane, France
On June 10th, 1944, 642 residents of the small French village of Oradour-sur-Glane were murdered by the Nazis in a show of force against the French Resistance. They shot men, women, and children alike in the legs so their deaths would be lingering and painful. Although a new village was built nearby after the war, the old one remains as a memorial to those lost.
