The Munich Massacre (1972)
The 1972 Olypmic games in Munich were overshadowed somewhat by an act of terrorism. On Sept. 5, the Palestinian group Black September took 11 members of the Israeli Olympic team hostage before murdering them along with one German police officer. This photo, which shows one of the terrorists, became the most reproduced image from the entire games.
