The Kent State Massacre (1970)

On April 30, 1970, President Richard Nixon announced that the U.S. would participate in military action against the neutral territory of Cambodia. Protests against the bombing erupted around the country. On May 4, members of the Ohio National Guard opened fire on unarmed protesters at Kent State University, killing four students and wounding nine others. This was one of the earliest incidents in a decade that was defined by the mainstream American public losing faith in their authority figures.
