The “Troubles” in Northern Ireland caused much grief during the ’70s. In this photo, taken on Feb. 12, 1977, Irish Republican Army troops pose for a propaganda image as part of a training exercise. These gunmen clashed with similar forces who wanted Northern Ireland to remain part of the U.K. rather than joining an independent Republic of Ireland. Ceasefire was not achieved for several decades.
