A young Brandon Phillips thought he’d blasted a homer over the left-field fence before Giles darted into the corner, planted his leg into the wall, and committed a theft. “Probably one of the best catches I’ve seen. … His timing was absolutely fantastic,” said Pirates manager Lloyd McClendon. “That was fearless. It looked to me like he forgot all about that [bad left] knee.”
