Easily the most famous catch of all time, Mays made “the Catch” in Game 1 of the 1954 World Series. The Giants center fielder retreated into the Polo Grounds’ impossibly deep center field to track down a ball off the bat of the Indians’ Vic Wertz with two on and no outs in the eighth inning of a tie game, which the Giants would win in the 10th.
