The 53-109 team’s offense wasn’t embarrassing, but their pitching was abominable, posting an MLB-worst ERA of 6.38. They surrendered 1,103 runs, the most ever in the AL. Only the 1930 Phillies have allowed more runners to cross the plate in a season. The ’96 Tigers featured Alan Trammell (pictured) off the bench in the final season of his Hall of Fame career.
