Back when there were just eight teams, 1956-57 was a brutal year for the Western Division — the Hawks had the division’s best record at 34-38; the worst team in the East was 36-36. St. Louis was led by Hall of Fame center Bob Pettit (pictured) who averaged 24.7 points and 14.6 rebounds per game.
